Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some answers to some questions that you might have. We’ll expand this list as we get feedback from participants (or potential participants).

Is this a Ruby conference?

It’s not! This is a conference about technology and people. Ruby is a programming language designed for people first, computers second. If you look at our speaker line-up you’ll not that we don’t have any Ruby focussed talks…

We love Ruby but the focus of this event will be on how technology can be used rather than the tech itself.

Do you have scholarship or diversity tickets?

We have a limited number of complimentary tickets available for members of traditionally underrepresented groups (members of the LGBTQIA+ community, people with disabilities, etc.). Please fill out our short application form if you feel that you would qualify and would not be able to attend the event otherwise. Regretfully, we are unable to provide travel or accommodation assistance.

Do you have a student discount?

Update: Yes we do! We now offer a student ticket for €70.

Please email us at [email protected] from your student email address to receive your personal discount link. Please include the words “student discount” in the subject line. The same discount is available for faculty members.

We don’t but we’re doing our best to keep the ticket price as low as possible. The event is organised by Helsinki Ruby ry, which is a non-profit, so we’re aiming for a revenue neutral event.

Is the venue accessible?

Broadly yes, keeping in mind that this is a historic building which brings some limitations. If you have specific questions about the venue they can be reached via email or phone (+358 9 5619 2708).

If you need any accommodations as a speaker, please get in touch with us and we’ll do our best to find a way through.

Will the event be live streamed?

No, we will not have a live stream but the talks will be recorded and published after the event is over.
